Welcome back to our podcast. I am the Gentleman, accompanied by the disturbed Southern Belle. Today, we're diving into the enigmatic world of Australian cryptids, mostly found in the rural outback. Our first cryptid is the Burranger, said to resemble a theropod or tyrannosaurus rex, although it might be more closely related to raptors. Known for its vicious nature and rapid movements, the Burranger has been sighted since the 1950s, leaving behind bipedal tracks and preying on livestock.
We also explore the infamous Yowie, often considered the Australian Bigfoot. Described as a hairy, ape-like man standing anywhere from 6 to 11 feet tall, the Yowie has a large flat nose and bat-like ears. While some legends depict it as a shy creature, others portray it as aggressively attacking anything in sight. Most sightings come from Western Australia, with Aboriginal legends providing a rich backdrop to its existence.
Finally, we discuss the Australian Enigma, a semi-aquatic beast with large eyes that attacked a ship in the Pacific Ocean. Eyewitnesses from 1808 recount the creature climbing across the bow and biting one of the hands. The captain's quick thinking and use of revolvers to shoot the creature in the eyes led to its retreat. This incident parallels the Beast of Stronzi in Scotland, another Nessie-type monster.
